Anti-fraud committee

The Legal Aid Society is committed to the highest possible standards of openness, transparency and accountability in managing and executing all of its affairs. The LAS aspires to promote a culture of honesty and opposition to fraud in all its forms and manifestations. LAS’s objective is to eliminate fraud from its activities. Any indications of fraud will be rigorously investigated and dealt with in a firm and controlled way.

LAS has formed a Senior Management Committee (SMC) comprising of senior members, an Executive Director, an Associate Director, and the Chief Operating Officer (COO). Any suspicions of fraud will be taken seriously and suspected fraud must immediately be notified. The Senior Management Committee can investigate in such cases itself or they can form a joint investigation team. The responsibility of the SMC is to look into the matter very carefully. The committee shall assign the investigation team for further procedures and to measure the sensitivity through approved TORs. The safety of whistle blowers is a very important consideration for investigators and one that must not be taken lightly. The organization has an obligation to protect staff members who have come forward to report wrong doing.

Harassment Committee

It is the Legal Aid Society’s policy that harassment of employees; on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, handicap, medical condition, disability, marital status, age, sexual orientation, and sex, including sexual harassment or for any other reason; is unacceptable and will not to be tolerated in any circumstance. Any employee who believes that s/he has been subjected to any form of prohibited discrimination/harassment, including sexual harassment, or who witnesses others being subjected to such harassment or discrimination are encouraged to promptly report the incident(s) to either their supervisor or the HR department or directly to the head of the organization. All employees are expected to cooperate with investigations undertaken and failure to cooperate in an investigation should result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

LAS has designated a grievance committee for investigating such complaints to ensure the same are recorded with findings and recommendations for appropriate remediation of such complaints. All investigations of discrimination/harassment claims are conducted in a way that respects, to the extent possible, the privacy of all the persons involved.
