Basic and Legal Literacy Initiative for Juveniles in Sindh (2018-2019)

After piloting a one year project in a very successful manner, the Legal Aid Society has entered into another partnership agreement with Open Society Foundations. This time, the project not only focuses on reading and writing English and Urdu and simple calculations for juveniles but also it focuses on legal literacy interventions at the police station level. The project started in November, 2018 and will end in October 2019. The project is meant to achieve following objectives:

  • Basic and Legal Literacy Classes for 100 Juveniles in the Borstal facility in Karachi
  • Training of Officials from Police, Prisons , Prosecutions, Probations and Reclamation Departments  on the new Juvenile Justice System Act 2018
  • Piloting of  legal empowerment desk in one police station of any district of Karachi
